Dark day in Akron, 1900.

Greetings ~

Akron has had it's share of riots. I remember the 1968 riot very well. I was somewhat in the middle of it by no actions of my own. However, the riot of 1900 was just a tad before my time. It was a lively little riot with armed mobs, screaming, burning buildings and all the ingrediants needed for a whole hearted fight fest.
Sadly, in the riot of 1900, the only real victims were two young children who had nothing to do with it at all. They died as a result of grown people acting like idiots. The riot was over one man. A black man who confessed to the rape of a white child. That set it all off. The city wanted blood...his blood and the noose had been made. But it wouldn't be used. Instead, fools gathered and burned the city building to the ground and other building fell victim to the flames.
The riot of 1900 lasted for two days until the National Guard arrived to put a stop to it. This blog details the riot and displays the photographs that have survived. 68-years later we would see another riot. Hopefully, we won't see any more.
For this blog, I have used text from several different sources. They are credited here. I hope it tells the complete story. It should never be forgotten.
